Comparison of Growth of Breast and Artifical Fed Infants


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of physical growth on human and cow¢¥s milk.
The subjects were sampled from March 1978 to March 1979 from among the healthy infants (105 breast-fed infants, 82 artifical-fed infants) who visited the well-baby clinics of "S" and "K" Hospital in Seoul. Infants had at least five length and weight measurement at monthly intervals in 8 month of age.
The results of this study is as follows:
1. The weight and height of breast-fed infants were larger than the Korean Standards in the period of 8 months after birth.
2. In artifical-fed infants, boys weight were smaller than the Korean Standards in the period from 1 to 4 month and 6 month of age, girls weight were smaller than the Korean Standards in the period from 2 to 3 month.
3. The mean values of both group infants were dominatly larger than males than females.
4. The weight of breast-fed infants were larger than artifical-fed infants in the period of 6 month after birth, and smaller than artifical-fed infants after 7 month of age. But there were no remarkable differences in weight between the breast-fed and artifical-fed infants.
5. In the height of breast-fed infants, boys were larger than artifical-fed infants in the period of 7 month after birth, girls were larger than artifical-fed infants in the period of 6 month after birth. But there were no remarkable diffences in height and between the breast-fed and artifical-fed infants.
